Philippine Agriculture, Agrarian Reform and Natural Resources (AARNR) Policies

A sustainable management of natural resources is fundamental not only for the Philippine economy but also for poverty reduction. Agriculture is considered one of the most important sectors of the Philippine economy. It accounts for 20% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). One-third of the country's total labor force is employed in agriculture or agriculture-related industries, mainly the rural poor. The degradation of natural resources threatens not only their livelihoods but also the supply with raw materials, biodiversity and food security.

In response, the Government of the Philippines introduced policies and measures on sustainable manage of natural resources and promotion of rural development.

The following policies shape the environment for sustainable rural development and management of natural resources in the Philippines:





The Environment and Rural Development (EnRD) Program is a joint initiative between the Philippine and the German Government. EnRD is implemented
by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
